About me

Hi everybody! My name is Jared Louis, I am an Animator and FX Artist based in Hawai’i and I have a B.A. for the Academy of Creative Media - Computer Animation from the University of Hawai’i at Manoa. I love to bring things to life through movement, dynamic action, and 2D FX inspired by eastern sakuga animation.
As a student of UH Mānoa’s Academy of Creative Media (ACM), I worked on five 2D animated short films. The first of which was my first short film, Rekindling, which tells the story of a depressed college student stuck lost in a colorless world, rediscovering his passion for art and bringing color back to his life. (Directed, written, and animated by me)
The next film that I worked on as a 2D animator, Storyboard Artist, and a Stop-motion animator, was Midnight Showing, directed and written by Gavin Arucan. This film was the only nomination from our ACM program for the CILECT Prize 2020 and won 10 awards at our University’s ACM awards including, “Best Animated Film” and “Best Character Animation”.
My teammates and I recently finished the remaining three films at various times during the year, the latest being in October 2020. All of which was shown at this year’s Hawaii international Film Festival (HIFF).
The first film in this group, and the third film I’ve had the pleasure of working on, was Pua Ka Uahi directed and written by Kalilinoe Detwiler. Which was shown at HIFF and the Cultural Animation Film Festival (CAFF). The next film, is The Pākalā Kids, directed and written by Gavin Arucan, I worked on this film as an animator. This film was also shown at HIFF. The next film is, Pua Warriors, directed by Sophia Whalen, written by Sophia Whalen and Gavin Arucan. I worked on this production, as an Animator, Storyboard Artist, and a VFX supervisor.
